Help! I Have Mold in My Bathroom

WHAT IS MOLD?
Mold is a microscopic living organism that floats in the air. Most are harmless – but certain molds are very serious and may require professional remediation. Mold can be annoying to keep under control.

WHAT IF I’M CONCERNED ABOUT THE MOLD
You can call professional remediation companies that can assess your mold and provide a solution to remove it. We also have professional expertise in building mold-proof bathrooms – call us for a quote.

CAN MOLD EXIST BEHIND WALLS
Yes. You can get mold behind drywall and on insulation which turns black – when conditions are right, mold can start anywhere – once it settles in it keeps coming back. And it creeps and grows so getting it early is good.

WHAT CAUSES MOLD
Mold needs a cool humid damp environment and still air - bathrooms are perfect places for mold.

HOW CAN I REMOVE MOLD
Bleach and other products – but may require hard scrubbing – unless every last spore is removed, mold can grow back – if conditions such as poor ventilation aren’t solved, mold will come back.

HOW CAN I PREVENT MOLD
A good quality high capacity exhaust fan is essential and will prevent most mold problems – remember that a good exhaust fan but poor ductwork in the attic will not help – it needs a good clear path from your bathroom via the fan and out through the roof vent to work properly – you would be surprised how many homes have problems in this area.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE LOTS OF MOLD ALL THE TIME
Pervasive mold may require a complete bathroom renovation as the only answer – complete removal even drywall may be necessary. A new proper exhaust system is always part of the solution.

Remember that even a good exhaust fan system may not do the job if it isn’t used properly – it should have a humidity shut-off sensor and/or timer so it keeps going at least 20 minutes after the bathroom is vacated to clear out excess humidity.

PEACE OF MIND WITH MOLD
We have seen serious mold issues that we solved with a simple complete renovation that included a good strong exhaust fan and ductwork where needed.
